Forbidden Fruit: 6 acts you must see at the festival next year

The twelfth edition of the Dublin city festival Forbidden Fruit takes place next year on the June Bank Holiday and there’s already names on the first list which have us salivating and dreaming of summer city vibes.

Here’s six of our faves playing 2024’s Forbidden Fruit.

1.

Four Tet

English electronic producer and DJ Kieran Hebden is one of our favourite musicians at Nialler9.

Whether it’s his ambient work, his DJ sets dropping ridiculous dubstep at Coachella, his razor-sharp club tracks or his dynamically rich live sets, Four Tet is a must-see on any festival bill, and a big reason to go to Forbidden Fruit in 2024.

There’s a reason we did a whole podcast episode in his honour recently.

Bicep

The Belfast duo return to the site where they headlined in 2022, presenting their Chroma (A/V set).

Matt McBriar and Andrew Ferguson have made the leap to main stage electronic headliner all across Europe in recent years, with their ambitious live stage production of light visuals and laser show by show designer Black Box Echo leaving a big impression across the spectrum of summer festivals.

2024 will see Bicep perform a DJ version of their show at Forbidden Fruit, with the pair’s originals and DJ selections matched to the duo’s kaleidoscopic live performance.

Barry Can’t Swim

The Scottish producer’s live set was one of the highlights from All Together Now this summer.

The release of Barry Can’t Swim’s debut album When Will We Land? on Ninja Tune has only cemented the musical thrills on offer with Joshua Mannie’s emotionally-driven electronic music, with touches of jazz and global sounds.

Tunes like ‘Deadbeat Gospel’ and one of the dance tunes of the year – ‘Sunsleeper’ are only likely to grow in stature before June arrives.

Nia Archives

Leeds producer, DJ and songwriter of breaks, garage and jungle.

Leading the charge of young black UK garage music of late, Nia Archives’ sets and music are brimming with exuberant energy, joyful breaks, searing low-end and recognisable hooks without slipping into mere novelty.

Nia Archives’ music has a healthy dose of nostalgia but is very much future-facing club music.

5.

Le Boom

The Irish electro band continue to soundtrack the sesh.

With a few lineup changes in recent years, Le Boom’s current setup features Christy Leech’s electronic pop and rave productions, often paired with his brother’s spoken word tales of late night revelry, partying to the backdrop of a country’s socio-economic issues that leave its youth to fend for themselves.

Recent singles, including ‘Orange Glow’ showcase a Fred Again meets For Those I Love aesthetic, that absolutely will slap at IMMA next year.

6.

Overmono

The UK brothers have turned their years of club experience into a two-step, garage and bass music must-see live experience.

Tom and Ed Russell have released some of the most precise and individual dance music of the past three years drawing from their respective projects of Truss and Tessela and their backgrounds in dubstep, bass and club music, with tracks like ‘So U Know’, ‘Gunk’, ‘Blind Date’, their For Those I Love remix and ‘If U Ever’ becoming firm Nialler9 favourites.

Overmono’s 2023 debut album Good Lies released on XL underscores the pair at the forefront of UK electronic music, and they have made Ireland a second home lately because we love them so much. Catch them at Forbidden Fruit 2024.
