Guestlist: Slow Focus on tracks that define the low-BPM Dublin Sunday club night

Avatar

Slow Focus is a low BPM, high buzz club night. Slow and low disco, boogie, Balearic, Italo and all that good stuff at a tempo that won’t break the bank.

Slow Focus is Gavin Elsted of Lumo Club’s low-tempo venture that happens on Sunday once a month at Love Tempo. The next one is this Sunday March 24th from 8pm, and is free in.

Below, Gav shares the tracks you can expect to hear at this gentler kind of Sunday club vibe.

1.

Make A Dance

Body II Body

I think I’ve played this track in every set I could since I got the record. There’s such a lovely swing to this edit, the M.A.D. boys have managed to wring the essence of the original out and streamline it for ultimate chug action. Magic.

2.

Rheinzand

Slippery People (Chris Coco Extended Mix)

A cover of the Talking Heads classic by Rheinzand, bent and stretched and dubbed out by Chris Coco. Lots of space and atmosphere in this mix but still thumps through the right system. Added bit of sleaze on the vocals.

3.

Waffles

Ca Va

Was hard to pick one Waffles track when they could all easily take every place on this top five, but if I had to choose, this is the one. Can a bassline be cheeky? This one is, backed up by equally fruity guitar and percussion and excellent vocals bits throughout. The original of this track is by Pilou and it’s on the excellent Chébran French Boogie comp from Born Bad, well worth checking out.

4.

David Christie

Backfire (PBR Streetgang Remix)

I’ve played this a few times early on in the night and it’s never failed to get people moving. Some really nice percussive breaks in there, sirens, guitars chick-chicking away with a front footed beat gives it a bit of a propulsive edge. Cowbell helps too.

5.

In Flagranti

Equal Rights In The Bedroom

I love playing loopy tracks that slowly unravel themselves over the running time and this is a perfect example – it’s quite short, but it gets the job done. One for under a slow rotating mirrorball in a dark room and lots of fog, few fingers guns in the air and some strong, early in the night shapes being thrown.

Slow Focus happens this Sunday and monthly at Love Tempo.
