A compilation of Limerick music artists will be released on vinyl by The Record Room & Wired 99.9FM in association with WAV Mastering this Saturday to coincide with Record Store Day.
The limited edition red vinyl, takes inspiration from the 1990 album The Reindeer Age, which was also a compilation of Limerick bands (and available on Soundcloud).
This round of the city’s artists include:
Anna’s Anchor, TA Narrative, Hazey Haze, 50 Foot Woman, Laura Duff, SWEETS, The Low Field, Dylan Flynn & the Dead Poets, Small Church, Strange Boy, Paddy Mulcahy, Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies and The PVP.
The artists also originally played the venue in a series of live events last summer, and were record and engineered by local producers, and those recordings feature on the record.
The album will be available the evening before at an event at MIC, that will mark the beginning of a weeklong exhibition of prints by artist, Graeme Dalton. Graeme shot every show, and his work is a perfect complement to the album. Copies of the red vinyl print will be available for purchase on the evening.
For the last number of years, college radio has its own day that coincides with Record Store Day. Vinylthon is an annual event for radio stations across the world who want to celebrate the format of vinyl music by playing at least one hour of vinyl-only music on either day (April 20 & 21, 2024).
Vinylthon is the radio industry’s response to the remarkable vinyl renaissance that has occurred around the world. We remind audiences that radio still loves vinyl too and many stations never stopped playing it. RSD have supported Vinylthon in the past 2024 will be the ninth Vinylthon event.
To celebrate Vinylthon, Wired 99.9FM will broadcast live from Steamboat Records on Saturday the 20th of April. The broadcast will go out from 10-1 and will feature a host of live acts. Paddy Mulcahy, Dylan Flynn, Strange Boy and more.
