Kojaque is the latest artist to curate the Sunday Independent and Focus Ireland’s charity fundraiser night after the Fontaines D.C. helped raise €60k on March 3rd 2020 before a live streamed show took over last year.

Artists Against Homelessness will be curated and headlined by Kojaque the gig at the 3Olympia Theatre on Sunday April 17th and playing on the night are Damien Dempsey, Shiv, EFÉ, Curtisy, Ahmed, With Love and Negro Impacto.

The night is on sale now priced at €30 plus fees from Ticketmaster.

“The issue of homelessness in Ireland is one that simply shouldn’t exist and can be prevented with the right intervention from government. However, it’s not something that I have felt is in the interest of our government, which is why charities like Focus Ireland and events such as this one are so important. They offer hope to those most in need of it.”

“It is incredibly disheartening to know that with over 8000 homeless people in Ireland, a quarter of whom are children, over 200,000 houses remain vacant in Ireland.”

Artists Against Homelessness was formerly known as Rock Against Homelessness. It is organised by Sunday Independent’s Barry Egan, and booked by producer Bekah Molony

“I was honoured to be asked to curate this gig for Focus Ireland; it’s a fantastic cause and I’m delighted to put my name to it. The issue of homelessness in Ireland is one that simply shouldn’t exist and can be prevented with the right intervention from Government, however, it’s not something that I have felt is in the interest of our Government, which is why charities like Focus Ireland and events such as this one are so important. They offer hope to those most in need of it. Music has always been a light for me in dark times, it’s a means by which I’ve been able to find joy and hopefulness in unfortunate situations and I think that’s exactly what an event such as this can offer for people. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share the stage with some beautiful artists and to showcase a small taste of what Ireland has to offer in terms of art and music. Over the last few years the change in Ireland has been quite palpable, the worsening of the homelessness crisis has been something that I’ve been acutely aware of, so I’m happy to have the opportunity to give back to a charity like Focus Ireland who are doing such important work. I’m also very excited to show people some of the emerging talent that the country has coming up the ranks, as well as some more established heads”

“There are still nearly 9,000 people homeless and the sheer number of children and families who are on the verge of homelessness due to the unstable housing sector is appalling. There are 2,500 children who are homeless with their families, and most lost their homes in the rental sector due to rocketing rents, insecurity of tenure and the rising cost of living. Rents have now passed the peak of the Celtic Tiger and when linked to the spiraling cost of living this has left many thousands of families and individuals at a tipping point between home and homelessness. Focus Ireland work hard every day to help prevent people from losing their homes and these services are needed now more than ever.”
