Avatar

A lot of music from Ireland and Northern Ireland comes our way and every week, we listen through it all, sift the list down to a manageable list and share the best new tracks from emerging artists and some more established acts that deserve to be heard by you.

For more extensive Irish and new music coverage, follow our Spotify playlist or hit up the Irish section for individual track features.

Featuring Cosha, Disfreq, Vernon Jane, Anna Leah, Apostle, Elliott Mo, The New York Salsa Company, Kid V, Strabe, Peter Vogelaar.

1.

Disfreq

People

The Donegal dance duo Disfreq have leapfrogged local activity in favour of Ibiza courtesy of Solomun playing their tracks out on the Balearic Island. Plus, a fair few London gigs.

‘People’ is their hypnotic looping latest, that reminds of a Joe Goddard-lead Hot Chip remix.

Previously.

2.

Strabe

King Of The Sea

Dreamy electronic acoustic vibes from Strabe, the Irish/UK duo Angelica Black and Irish producer Emmet Carey.

The band will release debut album How Our Love Grows tomorrow October 20th on PIAS.

Strabe started when Angelica (originally from Scotland) was at the Cork Jazz Festival and met Emmet,in a smoking area and struck up a musical friendship that began months later in Dublin student bedrooms.

3.

Peter Vogelaar

The Last Embers Of Us (Glisz remix)

Waterford’s Peter Vogelaar is a regular feature on these lists and here’s a nice take on one of his productions from the US producer.

He previously collaborated with Paris artist HAELIUM.

4.

Elliott Mo

Circles

A bright and electronic vibey track from Irish producer Elliott Mo  for his fifth single, returning after time away from music for a while with a renewed vigour.

5.

Vernon Jane

Chestpains And Sidepieces

The Irish band with the alt-rock jazz-punk sound released their second album last week, and it’s the title track that stood out to me on first listen.

Listen here.

6.

Kid V

Grow

Adopt a growth mindset with Tallaght rapper Kid V and his new track ‘Grow’. There’s a bit of a Chance The Rapper vibe to his voice. Watch the video shot in Belfast and follow the Kid on Insta.

Kd V played at Ireland Music Week this year.

7.

The New York Salsa Company

You’re A Fucking Loser

Adam Smyth of Dublin based noise-punk band Tribal Dance (currently on a hiatus) re-emerges under the project name The New York Salsa Company.

‘You’re a Fucking Loser’ is the eerie minimal electro new single from a forthcoming debut album HAMMUU 001,  on Bad Soup Records.

8.

Apostle, Caroline

Terrified

Dublin electronic producer APOSTLE drops his second single with the vocals of Limerick singer Caroline Clancy, and a production that leans on neon-tinged prog-house.

A video by German animator SoundFaenger is avaiable on Instagram too:

9.

Cosha

Want You Back

The music of Wicklow artist Cosha, formerly known as Bonsai, flirts with mainstream and alternative R&B styles, and has worked with Mura Masa,Rostan, Vegyn and Shygirl.

‘Want You back’ finds her in a mellower, needier moment.

The artwork image is wild.

Cosha plays Haunted Dancehall next month.

10.

Anna Leah

Bittersweet

Dublin singer-songwriter Anna Leah’s new single ‘Bittersweet’ follows the recent highlight ‘I Wonder’, with agentler folk take on the American indie rock vibe.

‘Bittersweet’ looks back nostalgically with sentimentality at romantic summers passed.

Autumn is the inspiration for this song. I love snuggling up by the fire and watching the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. I wanted the song to capture this feeling—warm and cosy. However, with this seasonal change come darker days and colder nights, and a sense of uninvited isolation can creep in unknowingly. My lyrics touch on that—how life can be a mix of highs and lows, and it’s okay to feel both; bittersweet.”
